  1. I believe this bike is much later than 1980. The Colnago "Saronni Super" was made in commemoration of his victory at the World Championships in September '82. So earliest model year would be a very late 1982, but more than likely a 1983 manufactured model (I think it was only made for one year). Saronni did not ride for a Colnago sponsored team until 1982 (Del Tongo). Also, the bike Saronni rode was not a "Super" model. He rode a new variant "Mexico" frame with the "Profil" ribbed top tube ('84 and later "Nuovo Mexico" frames had "Profil" down tubes also); you would have thought that a "Saronni (Nuovo) Mexico" commemorative bike would have been built. Also, Colnago made a "Saronni Giro d'Italia" commemorative model for Saronni's '83 Giro victory with the Del Tongo Team. I do not know what frame(s) he rode for that race.

  2. As per Sig. Saronni and Alex Colnago; the bike ridden in the World Championship is a Super with "PROFIL" tubing on the top and down tube. The Colnago website is incorrect, but they will not change it for some reason even though they admit to it being wrong. The placard on the bike reads "SUPER – Acciaio" (Super steel). Why Colnago still has not corrected their "Hall of Fame" description ("1982 WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP

GIUSEPPE SARONNI Saronni, riding a Colnago Mexico, redeems himself from the defeat of the previous year with an imperious shot in the final kilometer at Goodwood, England.") is beyond belief when the actual rider and company/family representative contradict their own website. The bike on display does not even have the typical Mexico features, but does have the typical Super features other than the "PROFIL" tubing.
